As the days grow longer, and the flowers begin to bloom, Spring is the perfect time to refresh your home with bright, airy, rejuvenated furniture pieces. Upcycling is a great way to bring a new lease of life to a piece of furniture, which maybe looks a bit tired and dated. It also allows you to make it totally bespoke to how you want it to look and be really sustainable too.

  1. Why not paint some chairs in some gorgeous light, pastel Spring colours:

These pastel shades look lovely next to the crisp white colour of the table legs. You could always mix and match farmhouse chairs styles too for a more eclectic look. Nothing says Spring quite like soft pastels. You can use shades, like sage green, peony pink, primrose yellow, cornflower blue, lilac etc. These colours bring a cheerful feel to any room and really bring the cottage aesthetic to life.

2. Lightened or Whitewashed Farmhouse Tables

Spring is all about brightness, so if your dining table feels dark or heavy, why not lighten it up? Pale wood or wood that has been paint-washed or tinted with a taupe or white tone, can transform a dark, heavy piece into a breezy, farmhouse-inspired centrepiece. This technique of using a wash, tinted oil or light stain allows the wood grain to still show through while creating a softer, more welcoming look.

I have used Osmo oil Tints (white) on this pine farmhouse table for a lovely cottagey look. It was previously a heavy orange varnished table, which I stripped and fully sanded down prior to adding the oil for protection.

Then paired with a painted leg colour, like this soft green, it really lightens up the room and brings the feeling of the outdoors inside. I love this look, not just for Spring, but all year round!

3. Floral displays and plants on Open Wooden Shelves

Open shelves look great with fresh spring flowers from the garden, or plants. It can just be a simple and quick way to introduce a pop of colour alongside adding a cheerful vibe to your kitchen. I love the pops of orange and green on the shelves above!

4. Furniture stencilled with floral images or floral furniture transfers

Decoupaging or using floral stencils and transfers is a great way to add personality to furniture. You can find lots of Spring-inspired and botanical transfers to help elevate and give your piece of furniture a whole new vibe. You can add these transfers to shelves, insides of bookcases, tops of coffee tables, front panels of furniture. Some are rub on transfers, like the one I have used on this gorgeous bureau above. I also changed the handles to these gold Ginkgo Biloba leaves for added elegance.

5. Refreshed Garden Furniture

With warmer weather on the horizon, now is the time to think about your garden furniture. Give wooden benches, metal chairs or even a tired picnic table a fresh coat of weather- resistant paint in cheerful Spring tones, like a heritage sage green, soft duck egg, or classic white. You could even consider painting an outdoor set of chairs in a mixture of complimentary pastel shades.

Adding soft padded seat cushions in floral patterns and soft summer hues, also can add a touch of comfort whilst making your outdoor space seem more inviting.
